Figuring out what a decent price for a rental car is versus a complete rip-off is not nearly as easy to determine as one might initially think. Rates vary depending on which company
which city
and which day it is. Strangely enough
it is not unheard of to get four different quotes on how much it would cost to rent a car on four consecutive days. One of the things that kills car renters’ wallets
is not doing the research to learn what the local fees and taxes on car rentals are.

In fact
local and state taxes make up an extremely high amount of the total car rental cost. In the 100 most heavily trafficked U.S. airports
the airport itself
and demanded rent was often a problem. Such add-ons averaged nearly 26 percent of the entire cost
compared with a 14 percent average for off-airport locations. In some cities the gap between on-airport and off-airport costs is nearly unbelievable. In Dallas
for example
61.4
percent of the total cost of renting a car at the airport came from taxes
while taxes at nearby neighborhood locations only made up 17 percent of the total. Like most taxes
these just continue to grow.

The most expensive cities in the United States to rent a car (the taxes are so high that it actually is an absurd idea for most people to even think about renting a vehicle here) are Boston
New York
and Houston. In all three cities rates can easily almost double over what was advertised. At Houston's Intercontinental Airport
if you rent a car for two days at $50 per day
you'd expect your bill to be about $100. Once taxes and fees are added in
watch out
because you will owe a minimum of $171. Aside from the big three
some of the other worst rental rates from airports include Austin
Cleveland
Dallas/Fort Worth and New Orleans. No matter what city you are in
it is often a good idea to rent from centers away from the airport. They will always be cheaper.

Taxes and fees (which are often much higher in cities that need funds for construction of convention centers or stadiums) can increase your final bill by up to 70 percent. Watch out for these cities
watch out for the taxes. While it may be uavoidable
really weigh your options. Is it really worth this much to rent a car instead of using public transportation? At the very least
find a rental center away from the airport. It might be a little inconvienent
but at least you save yourself something
which in high tax cities
migh end up being more than just a few pennies; it might be a small bundle.

If you want to holiday or visit family in Australia
unless you are a New Zealand citizen
you will need to obtain an Australian visa before you travel. The type of visa you will need broadly depends on what you intend to do in Australia
your nationality and the length of time you want to stay in Australia
but you will probably need either an Electronic Travel Authority (Visitor) or a Tourist visa or a Sponsored Family Visitor visa. Whichever the case
you should apply for the full period of time that you want to remain in Australia
because once there
it is possible that you will be unable to extend your visa.

The Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) (Visitor) is just as it sounds - electronic and therefore you may not get a stamp or label in your passport but don't worry
the Australian immigration officers will have a record of your visa.

You can apply for an ETA (Visitor) if you wish to stay for less than three months
if you are outside Australia and hold a passport from one of the 34 eligible countries. You will find a full list of these on the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs website
but included are most countries from Western Europe and Scandinavia
the USA and a number of Far Eastern countries. There are special arrangements for citizens of countries not on the eligible list. An ETA (Visitor) Visa may be obtained via a travel agent or an airline
direct on the Internet or at an Australian visa office in your country of residence. There is no charge for this type of visa unless you apply over the Internet.

You may apply for a Tourist Visa whether you are inside or outside Australia and the duration will usually be 3 or 6 months but can sometimes extend to 12 months if you can prove your ability to support yourself during your stay. Applications for Tourist Visas may be made via the Internet if you are a passport holder of an eligible country
or via a registered travel agent
airline or service provider
a list of which can be found on the website mentioned above.

A Sponsored Family Visitor Visa is applicable for stays between 3 and 12 months and to apply you must be outside Australia and have a sponsor within Australia who is a family member
a member of an Australian parliament or other authorised person. To apply
you will need to complete a form
get a certified copy of your passport and send it all to your sponsor in Australia. Your sponsor will need to complete a different form and make the application on your behalf
sending all the paperwork to the applicable office.

Anyone who is not eligible to apply for an ETA Visitor or Tourist Visa over the Internet can complete a paper application which can be mailed to specific offices of the Australian government overseas.

Australian Visa - Business Visits

If you need to visit Australia on business
even for a very short period of time
you will need to apply for an Australian visa. This article gives some basic details of the three types of business visa available.

There are three types of visa available for business visits to Australia. It should be noted that a business visit is NOT the same as "working" in the context of applying for an Australian visa.

The first is a Short Stay Business Visa which is suitable for a visit of less than three months. This will cover a business person for normal business meetings
negotiations and conferences and may be applied for through their chosen airline or via the internet. This is a Business Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). Alternatively
applications may be made in writing.

The second type of business visa is a Sponsored Business Visitor (short stay) Visa. In order to quality for this type of visa
a business person will need to be sponsored by a member of an Australian parliament
an authorised government agency
local mayor or other authorised organisation and the sponsor will need to guarantee that their visitor will abide by all the visa conditions including that which specifies the date by which they must leave the country.

The third business visa is a Temporary Business (Long Stay) visa. To apply for one of these
an applicant must have an approved employer as a sponsor who has an eligible position available. The employer can be an Australian or overseas company and the employee must be a foreign national with the applicable skills to fill the position. The eligible position must have been approved as a skilled occupation suitable for this program
must be full time and of a minimum salary as well as meeting various Australian laws and award requirements. However
before the employee can apply for a visa
the employer will need to apply to be a sponsor of overseas employees and nominate the job vacancies to be filled. The nomination period will be 12 months or until all the vacancies are filled
whichever is the shorter. The sponsorship will be for a period of 2 years and the visa period may be anything from 3 months to 4 years. However
if the employee wishes to change employment
he will need to find a new approved sponsor with an eligible position and re-apply for a visa.

Full details of all the above can be found on the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs website.

In our next article
we will look at working in Australia as opposed to being a business visitor.

Australia is a popular destination. Gone (or nearly) are the associations with convicts from Mother England and bars filled with muscle-bound sheep-shearers (women not allowed). Now if you ask for someone's impression of Australia they're likely to say "cosmopolitan"
outdoor living
beaches
scenery
Great Barrier Reef
sophisticated
even. However
if you want to go there
unless you are a citizen of New Zealand
you are going to need a visa or travel permit.

There are different visas depending on your reasons for wanting to go to Australia.

For social or recreational reasons including a holiday
sightseeing
visiting family and friends or other short term (less than three months) non business or work related reasons
you can apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (Visitor) or a Tourist visa or a Sponsored Family Visitor visa.

If you wish to participate in Australia's Overseas Student Program
you will need to do a registered course full-time and in order to do that
you will need a Student Visa.

For business visits of less than three months you will need a Business (Short-Stay) visa
which will permit you to visit Australia for the purposes of conferences or business meetings. If you are actually organising a business event or conference
you may need a different visa. For longer term employment in Australia
you will need to be sponsored by a company who are prepared to employ you for up to four years.

If you are between 18 and 30 and fancy working your way around Australia
you can participate in the Working Holiday Program which allows you to take up casual employment.

A visit to Australia for medical consultations or treatment requires that you have Medical Treatment Visa.

You can also get a Retirement Visa if you wish to spend some of your retirement years in Australia and a Transit Visa if you want to stop over on the way to somewhere else.

If you want to immigrate to Australia permanently
you will need to participate in the Migration Program which covers people with special skills who will contribute to the Australian economy and people who have family members already in Australia and who are prepared to sponsor them. There is also a Humanitarian Program for refugees.

If you are permanently resident in Australia but are not an Australian citizen
you will need a Resident Return Visa to allow you back in
should you leave on a temporary basis.

Each visa carries different conditions and may require additional paperwork to accompany the application. The one thing all the visas have in common
however
is that you will need to be specific about the length of your proposed stay. If you apply for a visa for three weeks but once you arrive
decide that you want to extend that to two months
you may have a problem.

It is possible that you will have to undergo a medical examination and/or chest x-ray in order to complete your visa application. This is unlikely
however
for a stay of up to 3 months
unless you already have a serious medical condition.

The best place to start for detailed information is the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs website.

Australia is not just about the city of Sydney and the grandiose Opera House. More than the famous kangaroos
koalas
trackers and the outback
the continent down under actually tops the list of every nature lover’s favorite escape to paradise.

Lismore

Lismore is perfect for those looking for the chance to commune with nature. Because forests are all around and even within the city
avid hikers
trekkers and campers alike would love to immerse in the beauty of nature that is just a few minutes away from the city center.

Credited as the birthplace of ecotourism
Lismore boasts of breathtaking waterfalls and national parks of World Heritage rainforests. Aside from the usual nature adventure
tourists should not miss Organic Tuesday which is a showcase of everything that grows on the fertile volcanic soil that is officially certified organic.

Kununurra

Kununurra is a city no only for a rendezvous with nature but also for inspiration and motivation when everything else seems to go another way. When all else fails and the moral is so down and low
Kununurra and its story is sure to bring back the smile and the determination to make things work.

Literally meaning Meeting of the Big Waters
Kununurra is a relatively new town in Australia. Contrary to most places which grew from small communities that gradually evolved into towns and cities and on the process developed a rich backdrop of culture and tradition
the city traces its history only a few decades back to the creation of the Great Ord River Irrigation. The town was created
in the truest sense of the word
with the purpose of being the service town for laborers and farmers that were implanted to the area during the construction of the dam and the irrigation system.

Sitting on arid lands
Australian government did not just resign to the fact that agriculture would not be feasible in the Western region. They then determined to challenge the adversities offered by nature. Aside from the dam
they also factually created two man-made lakes to ensure that farmlands they aim to develop would never go dry. True enough
what used to be hot and warm landscape of barren lands
Kununurra now features croplands and greeneries as far as the eyes could see.

Indeed
Australia never fails to keep surprising her visitors. Lismore and Kununurra are delightful desserts after a hearty serving of a taste of life in the outback.

There are myriad reasons for you to visit Singapore! Although it is the smallest country in Southeast Asia
Singapore is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The combination of dream-like
exotic landscapes
imposing ancient temples and worship sites grant the island a mysterious
almost unreal feature
immersing travellers into a deep state of relaxation
appeasement and contemplation towards the wonders of nature. As soon as you arrive in Singapore
you will be overwhelmed by the magnificent sites and ancient architectonic structures
emerging from a landscape that seems to be untouched by man. The multitude of parks
botanical gardens and the beauty of the beaches found in Singapore render the diamond-shaped island a marvellous destination for tourists from all over the world.

Contrasting with the exotic landscapes
vast parks and ancient architectonic remains
imposing sky-scrapers
wide boulevards and modern monuments suggest the advanced civilization characteristic to Singapore
defying the struggled history of the country afflicted by many political conflicts in the past. With a population of around 4.5 million people
Singapore has a pronounced syncretic character
bringing together people of different ethnical groups and various religious beliefs.

Due to the multitude of Singapore attractions
the best thing to do is to seek the help of a local guide. Singapore guides can take you to the most interesting sites and local attractions
helping you discover the beauty of the island. Considering the fact that the majority of people in Singapore are fluent English speakers
the language barrier shouldn’t be an impediment in interacting with the locals. If you decide to seek the help of a Singapore guide
you will be taken to a wide variety of ancient temples
monuments
parks
botanical gardens and even ports
sites of great importance to Singapore.

One of the most important Singapore attractions is the temple Thian Hock Keng
referred to as the Temple of Heavenly Bliss. Thian Hock Keng is an ancient Chinese worship site
initially built in tribute to Ma Po Cho
the patron goddess of sailors
also known as the Mother of the Heavenly Sages. The temple was reconstructed in the 19th century by Tan Tock Seng and Tan Kim Seng
highly respected personalities in the history of Singapore. The entrance inside the temple is guarded by the statues of two imposing lions
symbols of strength and fertility in Asian culture. At the temple gates
“door gods” provide further protection against evil spirits
purifying temple visitors from malignant energies. In front of the altar is the statue of Ma Po Cho
flanked by statues of the Protector of Life and the God of War.

Singapore is a country with a very interesting culture
built on the scaffolds of different ancient traditions and beliefs. If you decide to visit Singapore
you will be amazed by the intriguing contrast between ancient and modern
old and new
tradition and libertinism. A trip to Singapore is undoubtedly a remarkable and unforgettable experience for tourists from all over the world!

2. Removing Gum You can pick up just about anything on the soles of your shoes. Removing gum can seem like one of the most difficult things to do. The solution? Rub ice on the gum to harden it and then use a dull knife to remove the gum. The gum will come right off without damaging your soles.

3. Killing Flies Are there flying insects in your hotel room? Hair spray will kill flies and most other insects.

4. Drying Out Wet Magazines or Books Place paper towels on both sides of a wet page to absorb the moisture and prevent wrinkling.

5. Lingering Onion or Fish Smells on Hands Can’t get rid of onion or fish smells on your hands? Wet them

Asia occupies a quarter of the earth's land mass
it spans a lot of time zones. Having a single travel guide for all of Asia is virtually impossible. Asia like any other continent
here are basic travel tips for a few of the most happening countries in Asia.

Vietnam
The country's recommended tourist spots are Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City
which are both modernized. All tourists in Vietnam
except Thai and Philippine Nationals need a tourist Visa before entering the Country. Health wise
Malaria is prevalent in Vietnam
it would be best to bring with you anti-mosquito lotions to prevent being bit.

Indonesia
Aside from the usual prohibition of narcotics and deadly weapons
Radio cassette Players are banned in the Island of Bali
which is a prime tourist spot in Indonesia. Any object with Chinese characters written on it
are also prohibited in Bali.

Thailand
Thai people are very religious and very loyal to the monarchy. You would often see pictures of the king around the cities
never make fun of him. The Thai also consider the head as the highest part of the body
whether spiritual or physical. Refrain from touching anybody in the head
and try not to point at anything with your foot.

Malaysia
It's best to bring light and cool clothing in Malaysia. You would usually find food stands in the cities selling the local delicacies
teh tarik
a creamed tea
and "roti canai" a type of pancake
are a must try when you do encounter them. Malaysia has many religions
you would usually see
a variety of Christian churches
Muslim Mosques and Buddhist and Hindu temples may be present in each city.

Philippines
The Philippine has 7
107
islands and islets; beaches are the main tourist spots in the country. There are several museums and Historical Landmarks in Manila
the country's capital. Boracay Island is the boast of the country which has white sand beaches.

Hongkong
Hong Kong is a key destination for many travelers. It is located in Eastern Asia
near China and the South China Sea. Formerly
leased to Great Britain
Hong Kong was officially returned to China in 1997. Hong Kong offers diversity in: culture
religion
and lifestyles.

Chinese
(Cantonese) and English are both the official language here. So foreigners
who are planning to visit
should not have any problems exploring
and experiencing the culture of this vibrant place; since English is widely spoken here.

Hong Kong dollar is the currency in use here. One American dollar roughly equals around 7 Hong Kong dollars.
Hong Kong is known for: its unique energetic vibe
its wonderful food
and beautiful skylines. Hong Kong offers many great upscale shopping districts that rival the high end streets of: Shanghai
London and Paris. But the best places to shop here are the unique shops
and street markets that exhibit the charm and uniqueness of the locality.

General Tips
Each country in Asia has its own currency
although up-end establishments will accept dollars
there are very few of these around. It is best to have your money changed at the local bank. Some hotels also offer money changing
but usually at a lower exchange rate.
Like any kind of decisions people have to make
it is always important to know the area they will be visiting so as to familiarize themselves with the laws
locations of best tourist spots
and the kind of people they have to deal with.
Going to a place without having the slightest idea what it is all about is just as bad as going to the wilderness with beasts lurking everywhere and there's no gadget to protect them.

I have been traveling to Thailand off and on for the past 35 years. I was stationed in Bangkok in the early 70’s and I still go on vacation there 2 or 3 times every year. With all of those trips
I knew the Bangkok International Airport like the back of my hand.

In September 2006
the new airport
Suvarnabhumi (su-war-na-poom) opened and the end of the Don Muang era came to a bittersweet close. Suvarnabhumi is now the official International Airport for Bangkok and Don Muang has been relegated to domestic flights. I now had to learn to navigate this new metal monster.

Suvarnabhumi
meaning “Golden Land” is about 30 km east of Bangkok in an area known as Nong Ngu Hao
or “Cobra Swamp”. The complex covers 32 square kilometers
and has the world’s tallest control tower (132 meters). The passenger terminal has 360 check-in desks
120
gates
and accommodations for handling 45 million passengers a year. Surrounding the airport are flooded rice paddies.

The new airport is an architectural masterpiece of metal and glass and is aesthetically beautiful. My only complaint is that it is a long hike from the arrival gate until you actually reach the Immigration lines. It seems like miles.

On the plus side
as soon as you clear Immigration
there is giant electronic display board which tells you where your luggage is. There are many luggage carousels and knowing exactly which one is yours makes life a little easier.

Once you get your bags
clearing customs is a snap. I have never been checked once in over 35 years of flying in to Bangkok. The next thing you will face is the taxi mafia gauntlet.

Bags in hand
you will walk into a mass of humanity – some waiting for loved ones – most waiting to harass you. They are the infamous clipboard toting taxi mafia. They will pester you
block your way
ask where you go
and never give up no matter how many times you refuse and no matter how many languages you swear at them in.

Having used all of your best football moves
you work your way past the clipboard thugs and head for the down escalator. This will take you to legal and much more reasonable taxis. You will have to pay a small fee – but you will get some piece of mind in return. The taxis are registered
the girls in the booth speak English
and you won’t have to do any bargaining as these taxis use their meters.

If your cabbie offers to take you and not use the meter
agree upon a price and who will be paying for the tolls. This will be your first opportunity to experience haggling in Asia. Have fun.

I can’t vouch for all the taxi drivers but I did find one very honest one using this service last year. I left my credit card wallet in the cab and the driver contacted my hotel and arranged to return my plastic intact. He was rewarded handsomely and saved me a lot of hassle and possibly a lot of money.

Now you will experience the controlled chaos of driving in Bangkok. It is indescribable and has to be experienced. Say a prayer and hope for the best.

If you plan to go anywhere in Thailand
you might be lucky enough to fly out of the old International Airport – Don Muang. It resembles more of a ghost town than an airport but still brings back to me memories of hundreds of trips to Thailand. Being the first thing you see in a foreign country
you develop a fondness for airports.

I guess I will get over it and learn to accept Suvarnabhumi and treat this new International Airport as a new friend. I have been there twice and will return in March
2008
for another holiday. And
luckily
I will get to visit my old friend
Don Muang
the next day as I head up to Khon Kaen. It will be good to see old and new friends.

Report any problems to the airline before leaving the airport; insist on filling out a form. Open your suitcase immediately when you get to where you are staying. Any damage to the contents or any pilferage should be immediately reported to the airline by telephone. Make a note of the date and time of the call
and the name and telephone number of the person you spoke with. Follow up immediately with a certified letter to the airline.

Damage

If your suitcase arrives smashed or torn
the airline will usually pay for repairs. If it can't be fixed
they will negotiate a settlement to pay you its depreciated value. The same holds true for belongings packed inside. Airlines may decline to pay for damage caused by the fragile nature of the broken item or inadequate packing
rather than the airline's rough handling.

Carriers may also refuse to give you money for your damaged items inside the bag when there's no evidence of external damage to the suitcase. But airlines generally don't disclaim liability for fragile merchandise packed in its original factory sealed carton
a cardboard mailing tube
or other container designed for shipping and packed with protective padding material.

When you check in
airline personnel should let you know if they think your suitcase or package may not survive the trip intact. Before accepting a questionable item
they will ask you to sign a statement in which you agree to check it at your own risk. But even if you do sign this form
the airline might be liable for damage if it is caused by its own negligence shown by external injury to the suitcase or package.

Delayed bags

If you and your suitcase don't connect at your destination
don't panic. The airlines have very sophisticated systems that track down about 98% of the bags they misplace and return them to their owners within hours. In many cases they will absorb reasonable expenses you incur while they look for your missing belongings. You and the airline may have different ideas of what's reasonable
however
and the amount they will pay is subject to negotiation.

If your bags don't come off the conveyor belt
report this to the airline before you leave the airport. Insist that they fill out a form and give you a copy
even if they say the bag will be in on the next flight. If the form doesn't contain the name of the person who filled it out
ask for it. Get an appropriate phone number for following up (not the Reservations number).

Don't assume that the airline will deliver the bag without charge when it is found; ask them about this. Most carriers set guidelines for their airport employees that allow them to disburse some money at the airport for emergency purchases.

The amount depends on whether or not you're away from home and how long it takes to track down your bags and return them to you. If the airline does not provide you a cash advance
it may still reimburse you later for the purchase of necessities. Discuss with the carrier the types of articles that would be reimbursable
and keep all receipts.

If the airline misplaces sporting equipment
it will sometimes pay for the rental of replacements. For replacement clothing or other articles
the carrier might offer to absorb only a portion of the purchase cost
on the basis that you will be able to use the new items in the future. (The airline may agree to a higher reimbursement if you turn the articles over to them.)

When you've checked in fresh foods or any other perishable goods and they are ruined because their delivery is delayed
the airline won't reimburse you. Carriers may be liable if they lose or damage perishable items
but they won't accept responsibility for spoilage caused by a delay in delivery.

Airlines are liable for provable consequential damages up to the amount of their liability limit (see below) in connection with the delay. If you can't resolve the claim with the airline's airport staff
keep a record of the names of the employees with whom you dealt
and hold on to all travel documents and receipts for any money you spent in connection with the mishandling. (It's okay to surrender your baggage claim tags to the airline when you fill out a form at the airport
as long as you get a copy of the form and it notes that you gave up the tags.) Call or write the airline's consumer office when you get home.

Lost luggage

Once your bag is declared officially lost
you will have to submit a claim. This usually means you have to fill out a second
more detailed form. Check on this; failure to complete the second form when required could delay your claim. Missing the deadline for filing it could invalidate your claim altogether.

The airline will usually refer your claim form to a central office
and the negotiations between you and the airline will begin. If your flight was a connection involving two carriers
the final carrier is normally the one responsible for processing your claim even if it appears that the first airline lost the bag.

Airlines don't automatically pay the full amount of every claim they receive. First
they will use the information on your form to estimate the value of your lost belongings. Like insurance companies
airlines consider the depreciated value of your possessions
not their original price or the replacement costs. If you're tempted to exaggerate your claim
don't.

Airlines may completely deny claims they feel are inflated or fraudulent. They often ask for sales receipts and other documentation to back up claims
especially if a large amount of money is involved. If you don't keep extensive records
you can expect to dicker with the airline over the value of your goods.

Generally
it takes an airline anywhere from six weeks to three months to pay you for your lost luggage. When they tender a settlement
they may offer you the option of free tickets on future flights in a higher amount than the cash payment. Ask about all restrictions on these tickets
such as "blackout" periods and how far before departure you are permitted to make a reservation.

Traveling with a disability or a medical condition will be easier if you plan ahead of time.

* Provide advance notice to your airline or travel agent if you require assistance at the airport. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) can only assist you with the screening process. Your airline will assist you through the airport facility and the screening queue line.

* If you require a companion or assistant to accompany you through the security checkpoint to reach your gate
speak with your airline representative about obtaining a gate pass for your companion before entering the security checkpoint.

* The limit of one carry-on and one personal item (purse
briefcase
or computer case) does not apply to medical supplies
equipment
and mobility aids
and/or assistive devices carried by and/or used by a person with a disability.

* Pack your medications in a separate pouch/bag to facilitate the inspection process. Ensure that containers holding medications are not too densely filled
and that all medication is clearly identified. It is recommended that passengers refrain from packing any medications in their checked baggage that they do not want exposed to X-rays. Instead
send larger quantities of medications to your destination by mail or any other way preferred.

* If you have medical documentation regarding your medical condition or disability
you can present this information to the Security Officer to help inform him of your situation. This documentation is not required and will not exempt you from the security screening process.

* Make sure all your carry-on items; equipment
mobility aids
and devices have an identification tag attached.

* TSA recommends that you bring all the necessary tools and/or appliances that you require to put on or take off your prosthetic device (e.g. wrenches
pull sleeves
etc.) should you need to remove your prosthetic device for any reason. TSA allows these tools to be carried through the security checkpoint once they have been screened.

* If you have a medical device (on the interior or exterior of your body) check with your doctor prior to traveling to determine if it is safe for you to go through the metal detector or be hand-wanded. If your Doctor indicates that you should not go through the metal detector or be hand-wanded
or if you are concerned
ask the Security Officer for a pat-down inspection instead.

* Your personal supplemental Oxygen will need to undergo screening. Check with your Doctor prior to coming to the checkpoint to ensure disconnection can be done safely.

* If your Doctor has indicated that you cannot be disconnected or if you are concerned
ask the Security Officer for an alternate inspection process while you remain connected to your oxygen source.

* If you need an Oxygen Supplier to meet you at the gate
check with your airline well in advance of your departure about their procedures for allowing suppliers to meet you at the arrival’s gate since these procedures vary from airline to airline.

A little prior planning can make your trip easier for you and for the security personnel.

The airport security officers have to screen everyone
regardless of age (even babies)
before they can go through the security checkpoint.
They will not ask you to do anything that will separate you from your child or children.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers are specially trained and they understand your concern for your children. They will approach your children gently and treat them with respect. If your child becomes uncomfortable or upset
security officers will consult you about the best way to relieve your child's concern.

NEVER leave babies in an infant carrier while it goes through the X-ray machine.

* All carry-on baggage
including children's bags and items
must go through the X-ray machine. Examples include: diaper bags
blankets
and toys.

* All child-related equipment that will fit through the X-ray machine must go through the X-ray machine. Examples include: strollers
umbrella-strollers
baby carriers
car and booster seats
backpacks
and baby slings.

* When you arrive at the checkpoint
collapse or fold your child-related equipment. Secure items that are in the pockets
baskets
or attached to the equipment and place it on the X-ray belt for inspection. Plastic bins are provided to deposit such items.

* If any of your child-related equipment does not fit through the X-ray machine
security officers will visually and physically inspect it.

* Ask a Security Officer for help gathering your bags and child-related equipment
if you need it.

If your child can walk without your assistance
we recommend that you and your child walk through the metal detector separately. If you are carrying your child through the metal detector and the alarm sounds
the Security Officer will have to additionally screen both you and your child.

* Remove babies and children from their strollers or infant carriers so that the Security Officers can screen them individually.

* You may not pass the child to another person behind you or in front of you during this process.

* Do not pass your child to the Security Officer to hold.

* The Security Officer may ask for your help screening your child

The security personnel are just doing their job keeping the airways safe. Please cooperate and it will make your security screening go much smoother.

When it comes to
getting away from it all
many Americans are skipping the pricey trips abroad and opting to enjoy the many amazing, closer-to-home sights from the comfort of their own vehicles.

If you're planning a getaway, remember that road trips can be tough on cars, and few things turn a vacation into a nightmare quicker than breaking down in the middle of nowhere. So, before you load the car and take off, make sure that your vehicle is in tip-top condition.

A pre-trip inspection as part of an overall maintenance program can give you peace of mind and help prevent costly repairs.

Inspect and repair, if needed, the following:

• Radiator and cooling system, including water pump, fan and thermostat

• Brakes, brake pads and brake linings

• Battery and cables

• Belts and hoses

• Engine oil and oil filter

• Wiper blades and washer fluid

• Tire pressure and overall tire condition (including the spare).

• Most importantly, don't leave on a long trip with your car's
Check Engine" light on.

The Check Engine light appears when your vehicle's On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) computer detects a problem. According to several state Air Pollution Control Districts
the Check Engine light is designed to limit air pollution
as well as alert drivers to a condition that can waste fuel
shorten engine life and result in potentially expensive repairs.

If the light does come on
a quick check of your vehicle's service manual can often identify the problem and a course of action.

Those who take their car to a mechanic often find that technicians use a diagnostic tool to scan their vehicle and access trouble codes at a cost of $55 to $100.

A new automotive tool
with a Web site
lets consumers run their own diagnosis
enabling them to verify the mechanic's assessment.

Called CarMD
the tool provides a basic overview of probable problems with the car's electronic and emissions-related systems. It incorporates the same basic technology as tools used by mechanics
but is said to cost less and can be operated by anyone. A green light indicates that all systems are "go
a yellow light signals a possible problem and a red light means there is a current problem and service is required.

For more in-depth information, simply plug the tool into your personal computer and turn it on. It will connect to the company's Web site and provide a comprehensive report on your vehicle's health, including possible problems, estimated fixes and repair costs.

When you are planning your trip there are some things you can fail to remember. Usually they are very useful things and their absence can cause some inconveniences. Depending on the length of your trip and the place you are going to the list of the necessary items will differ.

In any case
if you are going abroad you must have all the necessary documents.

1) your foreign passport with visa (if necessary)
2) your tickets (plane
train
bus – just any)
3) your hotel voucher (if you stay in a hotel)
4) your insurance (if you have one)

If you are traveling with a travel agency
you’d better have their telephone numbers and other contacts both in your country and in a country of your destination.

So
when you plan to spend away from home only a couple of days you should only take your documents and a sufficient sum of money. There are hardly such things you can’t live without for several days. Of course
if you do prefer not waste your money
you should not forget your toothbrush ad other item of the personal hygiene. However if you stay in a prestigious hotel these things won’t be a problem.

Some people live their city with a strong desire to forget about all that they have left in their motherland
but if you still want to be in touch with your relatives and friends you’d better to take your mobile. Of course
you can call from the reception in the hotel
but mobile is much more convenient and cheaper.

In any foreign country if you don’t speak its language
the phrase-book can become almost indispensable thing.

No matter for how long your trip will last – you will be safer if you take your medicines with you. If you route lays far from the big cities you simply couldn’t manage to find what you need. Even if you are going to New York or Paris
are you sure you would like to waste your time and money looking for your salvation? It’s good if the foreign pharmacists know the name of your medicine – and if they don’t?

Continuing about healthcare – it’s highly recommended to make all the vaccinations you can need in the country you are going to. It’s especially urgent if you go to the tropical countries of in the country where the epidemic can spoil your plans. The list of the vaccinations you may need can be easily found in your travel agency
in the embassy of this country and even in Internet.
Don’t forget also to take the clothes for you rest. Swimsuit
T-shirts and shorts on resort and a couple of the warm sweaters and blazers in mountains. Anyway
don’t forget your running shoes – barely you will like to make long walks on high heels or in uncomfortable shoes.

If you expect long trip in bus or train
or long flight – take some books
magazines or something else to entertain yourself. Some people always take their talismans in their journeys. So
if you feel uncomfortable without your old toy – don’t forget to take it too
especially if you plan a long stay abroad.
Anyway
when you have cash or credit card you won’t be in trouble – now you can buy almost everything
almost everywhere.

Hello...you have been specially selected to receive our SPECTACULAR LUXURY DREAM VACATION offer!

Have you ever been tempted to sign up to win a "free" trip at a fair
trade show or restaurant? If so
you may get a phone call
letter
unsolicited fax
email or postcard telling you that you've won a vacation. Be careful. It may be a "trip trap." The vacation that you've "won" likely isn't free. And the "bargain-priced" travel package you're offered over the telephone or Internet may not fit your idea of luxury.

While some travel opportunities sold over the phone or offered through the mail
Internet or by fax are legitimate
many are scams that defraud consumers out of millions of dollars each month.

The word "offer" can be a clue to hidden charges. When you get the phone call
or place the call in response to a postcard
letter
fax or Internet ad
you also get a sales pitch for a supposedly luxurious trip - one that you could pay dearly for.

The salesperson may ask for your credit card number to bill your account for the travel package. Once you pay
you receive the details of the "package
which usually include instructions for making trip reservation requests. Your request often must be accompanied by yet another fee. In addition, many offers require you to pay upgrade costs to receive the actual destinations, accommodations, cruises or dates you were promised. Some offers may require you to pay more for port charges, hotel taxes or service fees.

See a pattern developing? New charges are being added every step of the way. You may never get your
bargain" trip because your reservations may not be confirmed or because you must comply with hard-to-meet hidden or expensive "conditions."

Telemarketing travel scams usually originate out of "boiler rooms." Skilled salespeople
often with years of experience selling dubious products and services over the phone
pitch travel packages that may sound legitimate
but often are not. These pitches usually include:

Oral Misrepresentations. Particular schemes vary
but all fraudulent telemarketers promise you a "deal" they can't possibly deliver. Unfortunately
you won't know it until your money's gone.

High Pressure/Time Pressure Tactics. Scam operators often say they need your commitment to buy immediately or that the offer won't be available much longer. They typically brush aside questions or concerns with vague answers or assurances.

Affordable
Offers. Unlike fraudulent telemarketers who try to persuade people to spend thousands of dollars on an investment scheme
fraudulent travel telemarketers usually pitch club membership or vacation offers in a lower price range. The offers sound reasonable and are designed to appeal to anyone who is looking for a getaway.

Contradictory Follow-up Material. Some companies may agree to send you written confirmation of your deal. However
it usually bears little resemblance to the offer you accepted over the phone. The written materials often disclose additional terms
conditions and costs.

How To Protect Yourself

Unpleasant surprises can ruin a vacation
especially when they cost money. That's why it pays to investigate a travel package before you buy. But it can be difficult to tell a legitimate sales pitch from a fraudulent one. Consider these travelers' advisories:
Be wary of "great deals" and low-priced offers. Few legitimate businesses can afford to give away products and services of real value or substantially undercut other companies' prices.

Don't be pressured into buying. A good offer today usually will be a good offer tomorrow. Legitimate businesses don't expect you to make snap decisions.
Ask detailed questions. Find out exactly what the price covers and what it doesn't. Ask about additional charges. Get the names of the hotel
airports
airlines and restaurants included in your package. Consider contacting these businesses directly to verify arrangements. Ask about cancellation policies and refunds. If the salesperson can't give you detailed answers
hang up.

If you decide to buy
find out the name of the travel provider - the company that is getting your reservations and tickets. This company usually is not the telemarketer.
Get all information in writing before you agree to buy. Once you receive the written information
make sure it reflects what you were told over the phone and the terms you agreed to.

Don't buy part of the package - the air fare or hotel stay - separately from the rest. If the deal is not what you expected
it may be difficult to get your money back for the part of the package you purchased.

Don't give your credit card number or bank information over the phone unless you know the company. One easy way for a scam operator to close a deal is to get your credit card number and charge your account. Sometimes fraudulent telemarketers say they need the number for verification purposes only. Don't believe them.

Don't send money by messenger or overnight mail. Some scam artists may ask you to send them a check or money order immediately. Others may offer to send a messenger to pick up your payment. If you pay with cash or a check
rather than a credit card
you lose your right to dispute fraudulent charges under the Fair Credit Billing Act. If you charged your trip to a credit card
you may dispute the charges by writing to your credit card issuer at the address provided for billing disputes. If possible
do this as soon as you receive your statement. In any case
the law gives you up to 60 days after the bill's statement date to dispute the charge.

Check out the company before you buy. Contact the Attorney General in your state or where the company is located to see if any complaints have been lodged against the travel firm or the travel provider. Be aware that fraudulent businesses often change their names to avoid detection.

If in doubt
say "no." Trust your instincts. It's less risky to turn down the offer and hang up the phone.

Where to Complain

Several organizations can provide additional information and help you with complaints.

Your state Attorney General or the Attorney General in the state where the company is located probably has a division that deals with consumer protection issues.

The American Society of Travel Agents
Consumer Affairs
at 1101 King Street
Alexandria
VA 22314
may be able to mediate your dispute with an ASTA member.

The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent
deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot
stop
and avoid them. To file a complaint or to get free information on consumer issues call toll-free
1
(1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. The FTC enters Internet
telemarketing
identity theft
and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel
a secure online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

There are a bunch of great places to eat that will suit every budget. You can choose from local street vendors or you can splurge on a fantastic seafood dinner.

The street vendors are mostly located just off of Walking Street down the small lanes or sois. They sell everything from bar-b-que on a stick to rice and noodle dishes. Prices are very cheap and you can get a meal or a snack for les than 2 dollars.

If you want Thai food in a nicer setting
there are many restaurants up and down the street. You can get western or Thai food at reasonable prices.

Some of the bars also offer food or provide menus that you can easily order from. You can order any item on the menu and have your full course meal while enjoying your favorite adult beverage.

If you are in the mood for seafood
there are 3 or 4 restaurants that have your favorite fish
lobster or crab on ice or still swimming around. Your meal will be excellent and cost about 25% of what you would pay at home. And the view of Pattaya Bay is magnificent. King Seafood is my favorite.

If seafood isn’t your favorite
you can always get Italian. Don Joe's is right on Walking Street and overlooks the bay. You can get pizza
pasta or lasagna in a great location with superb service. Many of the bars located near Don Joe's can provide a menu and will let you eat in the bar while you have a cold beer.

Another favorite of mine are the kebab sandwiches that some of the vendors sell. You will see chicken
pork or lamb on a vertical spit and you can get a sandwich with all the trimmings for about 50 Baht – or $1.50 US. The meat will be trimmed and put into pita bread and then you can add cucumbers
tomatoes
and onions. Catsup and other sauces are also available. Chicken kebabs are my favorite and the girls in the bars will be happy to grab one for you.

Probably the best part of Walking Street is that you can get food any time of day or night. Whether eating local style at one of the many street vendors
or going for the crab or lobster at King Seafood it is entirely up to you. You can even get a burger and fries if you want. And dessert is available too – you can get an Italian ice or some fresh fruit.

Walking Street is a fun place to go to for the bars and the girls but it is also a super place to get some excellent food.

Mineral makeup is something which you should invest your money in
although its application does need more attention and time. You can get that perfect look you want by following some simple tips.

Mineral makeup is here and it looks like it is going to remain popular for quite a while. Whether you are going to be a first-time user of mineral makeup
or you're a regular user
you need to know how to apply it. It might seem difficult at first and you might need to practice it for some time till you can be perfect at it. You need to know the correct tips and techniques to get the unblemished complexion you dream of.

Several mineral makeup brands will provide video or step-by-step instructions when you buy their products. If you are buying mineral makeup from a makeup counter or a store
you should ask for instructions from the salesperson on the way you should apply it. You should pay attention to the instructions given and learn the tips properly. Then you'll notice the difference between mineral and normal makeup.

The Tools: Brushes
Based on whether you will be using mineral makeup as foundation or concealer
you will require a different brush to apply it.

A brush
usually referred to as the Kabuki brush
is what will give you the best results when it comes to applying mineral makeup as foundation. These are like the blush or powder brushes but have short and stubby handles and full and firm bristles. Mineral makeup is applied with a buffing movement so that the stubby short handle is easier to hold and move around while the full short bristles enable a coverage which is even.

In order to apply mineral makeup as a concealer
you can use your fingers to apply it (for areas which need more coverage or for under eye circles) or a concealer brush (narrow and firm bristles which have a rounded tip) in the under eye region or a lip brush (short bristles which taper at the tip) for blemishes around the nose.

There are brushes which are used for applying mineral makeup sold with the makeup itself
but the quality of the brushes can vary. You might have to try different Kabuki-style brushes to find out which one you like best. Brands such as L'Oreal and Neutrogena sell their mineral makeup products with built-in brushes so that it is easier to carry around and apply.

The Technique

As mineral makeup has a loose powder texture
you might want to just dab it on your face like you would with loose powder
but you should not do that. Mineral makeup is a lot less translucent than loose powder and it is meant to be applied as foundation
so you have to apply it in moderation and build it in stages in order to have the prefect flawless look.

These tips will help you to apply it properly:

1
a small amount of the makeup on a tissue. You won't need much and you can always add more to it.
2
the Kabuki brush in the powder. Rotate the bristles into the powder
taking the product into the brush. The powder should get into the bristles
not just sit on the tip. When there is no powder on the bristles' tips
you are ready to apply it.
3
the brush against your skin by first holding the brush to the center of your forehead in a circular motion
moving towards the edge of your face.
Continue to do this till you have to add more of the product. You should not add more then once or twice.
The buffing motion is necessary for a flawless complexion.

Following these simple rules will help you to get the perfect skin you wish for.

Antwerp is a city in Belgium
which is a center of commerce. It has a population of just under half a million people and is the capital of Antwerpen province
one of the three areas of Belgium. The city is situated on the right side of the Scheldt River.

The city is quite old
its name being mentioned as far back as the 4th century. It was the headquarters of Edward III
and the golden age of the city is closely related to the Age of Exploration. The city has had three economic booms in its history
the first being the result of the pepper industry and later silver.

When it comes to tourism
Antwerp is gravely underrated. This can be considered bad or good depending on the tastes of the traveler. If you want to travel off the beaten track to a city
which isn't as well known as Brussels
Antwerp is a great place for you.

Antwerp is one of the most important cities in Belgium when it comes to culture and economy. Along with New York and South Africa
Antwerp is one of the most important centers for the diamond industry. The city also has a large seaport and is an important area for oil refineries.

Very few cities perfectly mix the medieval with the modern
but Antwerp does this well. You will be amazed by the castles and Renaissance villas as you eat and drink at the local cafes. The city is well known for its museums and galleries which demonstrate artistically the different moods of the city.

Included in the art galleries are the works of the 15th century Flemish Master Jan Van Eyck
and 17th century Baroque artists such as Antoon Van Dyck. The city has also been given international recognition as a city known for its fashion design. Many students who have graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts have went on to become world famous designers.

Thos who enjoy wildlife will want to visit the Antwerp Zoo
which is world famous and is located in the center of the city. Next door to the Antwerp Zoo is the Central Sation
which visitors will also want to see. Like Brussels
Antwerp is fairly expensive
and visitors will want to bring ample sums of money when touring this city.

If you are looking for a tourist spot where you can avoid the large crowds and head off the beaten track
Antwerp is a city you will want to visit

Antalya is Turkey's major and charming holiday resort in the Mediterranean region which is called the ancient Pamphylia. This is a beautiful city with endowing palm-lines alley. A superb marina is present on the Mediterranean which makes the Antalya different. This is a fascinating place in Turkey which is moreover good for natural beauty rather than anything artificial.

The upper Duden waterfalls can be seen about 14 km north east of Antalya. The tourists who come here try to capture the beauty by walking rather than hiring a taxi. Feeling each step of beauty is different from just passing bye. The Duden waterfalls ultimately descend into the sea. The sounds of the waterfalls and serene atmosphere tranquilize the minds of the viewers.
The Duden waterfalls in Antalya can also be viewed from the sea. Other great waterfalls that can be noticed here are the Kursunlu Waterfalls and Nilufer Lake. Both of these beauty icons are 18 km away from Antalya which are the epitome of beauty. The Lara beach is scattered with sandy spread is the archetype of a white bed spread.

Closer to Antalya lies the pebbled Konyaalti Beach which presents a panorama of the majestic mountain range. Little far away is Bey Dagi called the Olympos that is the National Park along with the Topcam Beach equipping more lavish scenery. There are bivouac grounds at the north end of the park. This shelter
moreover
enables to withstand the beauty of the nature.

For a picturesque view of the neighborhood of Antalya
it is essential to make a drive to the holiday complex which is situated heavenly on top of the Tunektepe Hill. Antalya is an ideal winter resort in Turkey. There are enormous snowed mountains that can be skied. March and April are the best months for enjoying this. Savory lunch is offered here including fresh fish at the Marina. In the afternoons
sunbath along with wind surf can be enjoyed.

Duzlercami Park that is positioned in the north of Antalya is under a conservation program. The trip towards this wild life gets eventually interrupted with the marvelous 115 meter deep Guver Canyon. There is small museum in Antalya. Majority of the artifacts are being displayed in other museums that are spread all over Turkey. An Archaeological Museum that has the remnants of the Paleolithic Age to Ottoman times gifts a coup d'oeil of the area's rich history.

Antalya thus becomes a natural expedition by feeling nature’s beauty. Shopping is not major exhibition here. People come here due to the immense cosmos of beauty and life. However
there is no tiredness or boredom as it happens in other resorts. There is enough and more things to be captivated slowly and reaching the heavenly beauty of Antalya.

If you plan to visit Germany and you take your American appliances there are a few things you must look into.

First you must know that most American appliances are designed to run off of 110 volts and Most German appliances are designed to run off of 220 volts. This means that if you plug an American stereo
razor
computer
etc into a German outlet it will destroy it!! The prongs are different so it is hard to make this mistake but outlet adapters are sold and this does happen often. The reason the adapters are sold is because some American appliances are Dual-Voltage and can run off of 110 or 220.

To find out if your appliance is Dual-Voltage you must look at the power information on the appliance
either on the appliance itself or on the power box on the cord. If you still haven’t found the information refer to your users manual. If your appliance is not dual voltage the only option you have in order to use it in Germany is to purchase a power converter.

Power converters can be purchased on the world-wide web (of course)
or select appliance and hardware stores. If you are somehow allowed access to a U.S. Army base in Germany
you can purchase one at the Post Exchange.

When selecting your power converter be sure that it is converting 220 volts to 110 volts and not the other way around. Next
you need to select the size of the power converter in which you will need for your device(s) this should be relatively self explanatory. Check the power output of the device and be sure it is equal to or below
below is recommended
the voltage of the converter.

Using certain clocks/alarm clocks can run slower or faster than usual even if the clock is dual-voltage. The only way to avoid this is to be sure the clock is of good quality and relatively new. If the clock is plugged into a power converter this should not be an issue.

Turkey has many beautiful resorts along the Aegean coast. Altinkum is one such small resort town on the shores of the Aegean Sea; it is only 90 minutes transfer from Bodrum Airport. The town has got its name after the golden sand on its beaches. Altinkum means “golden sands”. The magnificent beaches of golden sand gently shelving into the shimmering turquoise blue water of the Aegean Sea is an enchanting sight. Altinkum resort has three beaches. The main beach has plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for basking on the beach. Or you can go swimming in the nice
clear blue water of the Aegean Sea. Plenty of water sports are also available; children enjoy going on the pedal boats. There are enjoyable boat trips that take you around the bay and the Castle. The second beach has many bars and restaurants facing the sea. The third beach is a smaller more secluded beach.

Apart from swimming and basking on the beach
there is plenty of sight seeing you can do. There are many interesting ancient sites you can visit near Altinkum. A short ten minutes journey from the resort center is the Temple of Apollo where you will see the famous head of Medusa adorned with snakes; and you will be astonished with the size of the columns here.
For a longer day-out visit
go to see one of the seven wonders of the ancient world
the ruins of Ephesus. It is a well-preserved classical city on the Mediterranean
and gives you a feeling of what life was like in Roman times. It is said that the Virgin Mary
at the end of her life
came to Ephesus accompanied by St. Paul. Also St. John is said to have lived the last years of his life here and after his death
a shrine
the Basilica of St. John was located over his grave.

You can take a boat trip to the Greek island of Samos. Samos lies at the north-eastern part of the Aegean Sea. Visitors are enchanted to see the charming mountainous landscape of Samos with the essential beauty of the nature and the historical spread all over the island. It is a unique experience.

Or perhaps you will enjoy a walk around the beautiful Bafa Lake nearby; it has a magnificent mountain backdrop. Visit the Didim Aqua Park
just outside of Altinkum resort; the Aqua Park was built in 2004 and is very popular.

For relaxation and entertainment
there are a large number of restaurants and waterfront bars open until around midnight; later the party atmosphere moves to nightclubs. It can get lively in high season when the holiday spirit is in full swing.

There are many good hotels at Altinkum resort. The Didim Beach Resort
one of them
has its own golden sand beach situated in one of the beautiful bays of the Aegean coast. The hotel has facilities for games such as tennis
table tennis
basketball
etc.; it also has swimming pool
Turkish bath & sauna as well as fitness center. The hotel has its own shopping centre and disco within the complex. The hotel is 90km from Bodrum Airport.

All-inclusive vacations are appealing to families and people on a certain budget. Included in an all-inclusive package will be a round-trip airfare from a departure destination
transport between airport and your hotel
your hotel fee and all meals and drinks. This is a good deal if you have teenagers because you don’t have to worry about keeping them fed. All-inclusive packages will also normally include a couple of extras
such as a free tour or two
and on-sight recreation. All-inclusive means that once you get to your destination
you don’t have to spend any money except on souvenirs of your trip unless you go outside your resort. These vacations are a no hassle way of taking a vacation and being able to relax and enjoy it without figuring out how much your accommodations will cost and finding the right place to stay. Prices vary and depend on the time you plan to spend at the resort and what amenities you want or expect.

There are many advantages of an all-inclusive vacation package. The buffet-style food gives you a huge choice in what you want to eat
is easily available and will allow you to sample different varieties of food you normally wouldn’t try. The service is always helpful and you will find many activities included in the package. The all-inclusive trip that we took included two tours of our choice as well as snorkeling and other water activities. Many sights have pools
tennis courts
or golf courses. These activities are free and part of the package.

One of the best advantages in buy an all-inclusive package to a major theme park such as Disney World is they have so many activities that are included. For instance
water parks
miniature golf
canoeing
biking
and horseback riding. The best part is they have free shuttles back and forth between the different areas so you don’t have to worry about transportation. No need for the extra expense of renting a car.

If your family includes older children
you might enjoy an all-inclusive package such as a skiing adventure in the Rockies
or a trip to a “dude” ranch in Arizona. No matter what your tastes are
you can find an all-inclusive vacation to make everyone happy.

There are a few cons to an all-inclusive vacation. You should explore your destination on-line and sometimes that still doesn’t tell the whole story. We booked an all-inclusive vacation in Cancun that sounded like heaven. The resort was found on a reef just off a major island and not on the “strip” of hotels in the heart of Cancun. Sounds perfect right? When you are booking your all-inclusive vacation
be sure you know exactly what all-inclusive means. Some resorts offer low prices but you are subjected to sales pitches to buy time-shares. What you thought would be an ideal vacation could turn into a nightmare when you realize that in some places
though it advertises no tipping
the workers still expect it. If they aren’t tipped
your service will be affected. At least we found this to be true at the resort we stayed at. At our resort
there were tip jars everywhere and tips were absolutely expected. Some resorts ban all tipping and you need to find out ahead of time which type of resort you are going to.

Another downside to taking an all-inclusive vacation is that if you go off the resort you will pay for everything you do. In our case
our resort was small and had limited-access to other activities. What we thought would be a vacation to get away from it all
instead turned in to a vacation that was restrictive and more costly than we expected. For instance
the all-inclusive package included only one round-trip ferry ride to the mainland. That means
they got us to the resort and would get us back to the mainland for our trip home
and all other visits or excursions off our resort was our responsibility to pay for. The resort was beautiful
but we were expected to tip
we had to sit through a sales presentation
and it was restrictive on that particular resort.

All-inclusive has a nice sound to it
but be sure that where you are going is all-inclusive. Research on the Internet or ask for friends or family members recommendations.

By the 1990s family businesses and small-scale industries were being replaced by professional and service industry-propelling Amsterdam on the trade map of the world. Trade and tourism go hand-in-hand
and today Amsterdam is the fourth-most-popular tourism destination behind London
Paris and Rome. The NH Schiphol Airport is a busy airport with hotels in the near vicinity and providing full service to the business and leisure traveler alike.

For someone on a short business trip with the majority time being spent in boardrooms or conferences
staying at one of Amsterdam’s airport hotels works out to your advantage. Most hotels have excellent to reasonable rooms with basic amenities such as refrigerator
TV
Internet access on hourly or 24-hour packages
telephone with ISD services and voice mail
mini bar
and car parking services at no extra charge. While checking in to the hotel
the priority should be minimum distance from the airport. If shuttle service is provided or has direct access to arrival and departure halls
that is a plus. The airport has a train station underneath it
so there is no hassle in exploring the city after work and returning to the comfort of your room.

The airport hotels cater to different budgets providing facilities depending on the status of the hotel. Most 5- or 4-star hotels have state-of-the-art fitness equipment
a wide selection of restaurants offering buffets or เ la carte menus
and stylized rooms. Some hotels do not include breakfast and charge for car parking by the hour. Few hotels offer discounts if booking is done through Internet in advance
favoring the busy traveler using Amsterdam as a transit point for a few days. The disadvantage of staying in an airport hotel is felt by visitors wanting accessibility to different areas. Though the Amsterdam airport is well connected to Central Station through an underground railway system
buses
and private transport
the feeling of city centrality is best experienced at an in-town hotel.

Airplane Comfort Tips: Mental and Physical Comfort

The most important Airplane Comfort Tip that will make you feel very comfortable while flying is if you know that you have struck the best deal and managed to save a lot of money. Whether you are flying on a business trip or a pleasure trip
you can make it less expensive with little extra effort.

Here are some airplane comfort tips that will make your journey comfortable through some lesser-known methods of using air transport. Interestingly
the famous airfare price wars and the travel agents are not at the top of the list of our best airplane comfort tips.

When Should You Call Airlines?
The first airplane comfort tip suggests that you may get air tickets at a lower price if you call the airlines after 12 midnight and before 1:00 A.M. This is the best time because computers are updated at this time. Alternatively
you may make inquiries at other nearby airports. To your surprise
the difference in fare at the two airports can be several hundred dollars. You can also save some money if you book your ticket well in advance. On the other hand
booking at the last minute may also give you some extra benefit.

How to Counter Airplane Dryness
Now that you are mentally comfortable
because you feel that you have done your best to pay minimum for your airline ticket
here are some other airplane comfort tips to keep you physically comfortable while flying: 1.) You should take very light meals and get a good night's sleep before you start traveling. 2.) To counter the dryness caused by the atmosphere in the cabin
it will be better if you avoid drinking tea
coffee and alcohol. However
consume as much water and fresh fruit juices as you can. If you wear contact lenses
remove them if it is possible. Use moisturizer for the exposed skin and lip balm for the dry lips. If you have history of any kind of respiratory disease
it is advisable to consult your doctor before flying in the airplane.

Do Not Sit Idle for a Long Time
My next airplane comfort tip is that you should not remain sitting idle for the whole duration of the flight. It may cause obstructions in blood circulation resulting in muscle cramps
tiredness and worst of all
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Whenever you get a chance
try moving in the aisle. If you find it difficult
try to stretch your arms
neck
feet and legs.

Over 40 million Americans have disabilities. The Air Carrier Access Act and the Department of Transportation (DOT) rule that implements it set out procedures designed to ensure that these individuals have the same opportunity as anyone else to enjoy a pleasant flight. Here are some of the major provisions of the rule.

* A person may not be refused transportation on the basis of disability or be required to have an attendant or produce a medical certificate
except in certain limited circumstances specified in the rule.

* Airlines must provide enplaning
deplaning and connecting assistance
including both personnel and equipment. (Some small commuter aircraft may not be accessible to passengers with severe mobility impairments. When making plans to fly to small cities
such passengers should check on the aircraft type and its accessibility.)

* Airport terminals and airline reservations centers must have TDD telephone devices for persons with hearing or speech impairments.

* Passengers with vision or hearing impairments must have timely access to the same information given to other passengers at the airport or on the plane concerning gate assignments
delayed flights
safety
etc.

* Newer wide-body aircraft must have a wheelchair- accessible lavatory and an on-board wheelchair. Airlines must put an on-board wheelchair on most other flights upon a passenger's request (48 hours notice required).

* Air carriers must accept wheelchairs as checked baggage
and cannot require passengers to sign liability waivers for them (except for pre-existing damage).

* Most new airplanes must have movable armrests on half the aisle seats
and on-board stowage for one folding passenger wheelchair.

* Carriers must allow service animals to accompany passengers in the cabin
as long as they don't block the aisle or other emergency evacuation route.

* FAA safety rules establish standards for passengers allowed to sit in emergency exit rows; such persons must be able to perform certain evacuation-related functions.

* FAA rules also prohibit passengers from bringing their own oxygen. Most airlines will provide aircraft-approved oxygen for a fee
but aren't required to.

* Airlines may not charge for services that are required by this rule.

* Airlines must make available a specially-trained Complaints Resolution Official if a dispute arises. There must be a copy of the DOT rule at every airport.

It's wise to call the airline again before your trip to reconfirm any assistance that you have requested. Check with the TSA web site for the latest security information.
